Angels Furever Foundation – Care. Heal. Rescue.

I have some very special people and animals to introduce today!

This year, all the food donations from the Dog & Cat Days of Summer photo sessions will benefit Angel’s Furever Foundation! AFF is a 501c3 organization that provides medical funds to homeless animals as well as taking in senior animals that need homes. They are particularly helpful to rural shelters who can’t afford medical procedures for their shelter animals, and elderly people who can no longer take care of their dog and need to surrender them due to health issues.

Angel’s Furever Foundation is run by four incredible ladies, with hearts of gold for dogs. When you speak with any one of those four ladies, they are full of uplifting stories of success where, had AFF not been involved, tragedy and heartbreak could have been the outcome.

Their very first rescue was a senior Cocker Spaniel, named Cleo, who’s family was being deployed to Germany. The family discovered their dog was Heartworm positive, meaning not only did she need expensive medical treatment, but she could not travel with them overseas or enter a new country with this condition. Angel’s Furever Foundation was able to bring Cleo into their rescue so that she didn’t have to be placed in a shelter. They started her Heartworm treatment and after she was declared Heartworm free, Cleo found her forever home with a family that spoils her and loves her so much. They have even sent updates to her family in Germany and they are so relieved that Cleo found the caring home she did.

And then there is four year old Angel; AFF’s namesake and inspiration. When the ladies first encountered Angel, she had a life-threatening heart murmur. I received a letter from Angel herself, telling her story,

“This is my (Angel’s) story through a dog’s eyes, interpreted by my un-furry mom. It seems like a long time ago (even in people months) that I ended up at the shelter with my friend. I still don’t know why, but sometimes things just happen, I guess. My friend was adopted pretty quickly, but for some reason I was in holding for a while. I didn’t know it, but I had a heart problem that was really bad. It was so bad that I could not be adopted and might have had heart failure at any time. Instead I had surgery and am now a foster failure which is much better. A lot of nice people helped pay for surgery and the vet school gave me awesome care and a discount.  I had no idea why I was tired and skinny before, but boy am I making up for lost time.  I can dig, bark and run in circles with best of them!

The people that helped me were worried about other dogs with stuff going on that a shelter or rescue could not pay for, so here I am as this foundation spokesdog asking for your help for other dogs like me. I am the one the really nice t-shirt you can get for donating!

My foundation’s people have already helped some furry friends with serious stuff like broken bones and a bad virus.  They have gone on to rescue and re-home senior dogs, too. It would be super if you could check out the website (www.angelsfureverfoundaton.org) and think about fostering or donating.”

Beer Paws – For the Love of Good Times with Good Dogs

So, unless you just moved to the KC area, you’ve heard of Beer Paws. And everything about that name just begs for you to check them out, right? Dog treats from beer? Wha?? Trust me, it’s awesome.

Beer Paws’ founder, Crystal Wiebe, talks about what Beer Paws is. “We work with your favorite breweries to create dog treats. This means that you and your dog really can share a “beer” together! To make our beer biscuits, we use the spent grains from the breweries (a high protein, high fiber ingredient) and add peanut butter, eggs and love. Our dog beer contains glucosamine and is a yummy liquid treat that dogs enjoy over their food, frozen as ice cubes or straight from the bowl.”

        Beer Paws Beer

I have a 14 year old miniature schnauzer with health issues, and it is a daily struggle to get her to eat. So, I was intrigued when I heard Crystal’s story about her min pin, Scooby, and how Beer Paws’ Doggy Beer helped him. Crystal developed Doggy Beer back when her miniature pinscher, Scooby, was about 16 years old. The glucosamine was good for his joints, and the liquid treat poured over his food helped him eat better. He was around for about two more years! Rescues and other customers have often used their dog beer the same way – to help elderly dogs and those on a restricted diet eat better. They’ve even had a customer claim that dog beer helped when their dog was recovering from MERSA!

I’ve been known to use their Beer Biscuits as treats during dog photo sessions, and their high protein and fiber content can also help keep your dog regular.

        Beer Paws Beer Biscuits

You can get Beer Paws treats just about anywhere you shop for your pet, on their website at beerpaws.com, and now they are even available on Amazon!

Beer Paws hit the big time last year, where they were represented at the Great American Beer Festival, and they will be headed back there this year as well! Beer Paws works with over 50 craft breweries in the Midwest, so chances are, if you are headed to a beer festival in the Midwest, Beer Paws will probably be there!

Do your dogs love Beer Paws? What are their favorite Beer Paws products? Tell us in the comments, and share your pictures of your pups in their favorite Beer Paws gear!

Three Dog Bakery – The Original Bakery for Dogs!

          Three Dog Bakery

Sigh. I love bakeries. They are always chock full of delicious goodies, and warm fuzzy memories. I love dogs, too. They bring warm fuzzies everywhere they go, right? Combine the two, and you get Three Dog Bakery!

Their website sums it up perfectly, “Three Dog Bakery all started with a rescue pup named Gracie. She came to us with the strongest of hearts and the tenderest of tummies. Typical kibble wouldn’t cut it. So, we learned to bake. From that very first batch of wholesome, handmade treats we saw the true magic of dogged devotion.

The healing. The happiness. The unshakeable, unbreakable bond that feeds the soul of both species. And, when all of that was too much to contain in one little kitchen, we opened the world’s first bakery for dogs –– stocked with healthy, drool-worthy treats. In fact, many consider ours to be the very best in the animal kingdom.

Crafted from scratch in small batches, our highly-skilled pastry chefs use only simple, real ingredients. They slow bake each recipe to lock in all those luscious flavors and canine-loving nutrients.

We’ve been making tails wag since 1989, and today our mission remains the same –– feed the souls of dogs and the people that love them. So, go ahead. Treat your dog to our artisan bites and don’t be afraid to bark about it.”

Yes, you read that right. Pastry chefs. There is an actual chef in every store. Because dogs deserve chefs too, you know!

          Three Dog Bakery-2

And just look how cute their pastries are! Definitely drool-worthy. I mean, for the dogs, right? 😉

          Three Dog Bakery-4Three Dog Bakery-1

Three Dog Bakery doesn’t just carry gorgeous pastries for dogs (and cats!) They have some seriously gorgeous pet accessories, also. I have been known to go into my local TDB to get bow ties, flowers, and all sorts of fun props for my pet photo sessions and events. I particularly love that they stay looking picture perfect through multiple photo sessions, and for several years, too!

Speaking of dressing your pet up, are you taking your pet trick-or-treating this year? Well, you should, because Three Dog Bakery (Plaza location) is having their annual Growl-O-Ween Trick-or-Treating at Mill Creek Park on October 28th! Registration begins October 1st, so keep you eye on their Facebook page to get the info when it’s posted!

They’ll have a costume contest with prizes for most original costume (large & small dog), best dog/owner duo, and the “Oh No You Didn’t!” costume award! There will be Tricks for Treats for dogs at dog-friendly Plaza shops after the costume contest. I can’t wait to see pictures from this event, it sounds like so much fun!
